The type of attack, whether physical or magical, depends on the weapon type.

Physical attacks: Sword, Spear, Claws, Boomerang.
Magical attacks: Whip, Staff.

Therefore, to perform either physical or magical attacks, equipping a weapon suited for each type is necessary.
